December 2008

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

“May the peace and love of God surround you always.”

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2009

Many years ago my father wrote a song called “Dim-dom, Dim-dom, Dim-dom, bells are ringing it is Christmas time.” It goes like this:

Dim-dom, dim-dom, dim-dom, the bells are ringing it is Christmas time
Dim-dom, dim-dom, dim-dom, the bells are ringing it is Christmas time
Christmas time is a symbol of love
The greatest love that was shed for us
Gifts are given to one another
But the greatest gift of all
Has come from heaven
Music and Words: Marcos Souza Sr.

This song says it all. Christmas time is a time when we express our love to our loved ones but we must never forget the real meaning behind this wonderful time. The greatest gift given to mankind was give by God the Father and it is His only Son Jesus Christ. Without Him, we are doomed. With Him with have life, eternal life with the Father.

Marcos & Monica:
The year of 2008 was an interesting year for us. We now have a baby, a wonderful baby whom we are totally in love. We were also privileged that one of parents is letting us staying in his apartment for the moment while we don’t have a home.
Camp Ministry:
This year we have great plans for the camp ministry. Last year was not as good because all of the holidays fell upon weekends and all of the churches were busy to come up to the camp. But this year we have at least 10 holidays and none of them falls into weekends. We already have 5 different churches already set for next year. We plan also to do our own camp in July but we will keep you postdated as to what we do.
Music & Evangelism Ministry:
This coming up year is going to be busy for us as we engage into many different opportunities in the interior of Sao Paulo State.
Sports Ministry:
This ministry will also be very effective as it was already in 2008. We plan to engage it into local churches in our area and the camp.
Hospital Ministry:
This particular ministry might have to suffer a big change, because the hospital where we were suppose to help is very far from our new home and we don’t enough funds to sponsor this. But we do have another plan, that is to work on hospitals around our area. We have made many friends in a particular hospital in our area, hopefully by February we will engage into something effective.

Thank you so much for all the gifts to us and specially to our new born, Mateus.
He is very thankful just as we are too.
God Bless all of you so much in Christ Jesus

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“May the peace and love of God surround you always.”

Greetings from Brazil and from our NEW BABY, MATEUS.

Our Baby:
Well, our baby boy, Mateus, is here with us and we are so excited about him. Our daily routines have changed a bit as well as our body time, we are still to get used to getting up at 2 and then at 6 and every 4 hours but we are doing that with great joy in our hearts.
Mateus was born with 45cm and 3.6 kg, not sure what is that in pounds. He stayed at the hospital for about 5 days do to something called ecitericia (don’t know how to spell it correctly), I came to learn that this problem is normal among new born babies, in which, their skin is more yellow color than supposed to, so they put him under a light for couple of hours every day. Today 15 days later, he is doing just fine. He has been gaining many pounds and is growing too. We give a sun shower every day just as the doctor said, but besides that, Mateus is doing very fine.
Monica is doing great too. The surgery went very well, she had a c-section. Today she is able to do a lot of things. Doctor said she will be fine and in couple of weeks she will be back to normality.
We have been enjoying Mateus very much! He is so cute. I never thought I could love like that. I know that for many of you, you know that feeling I am talking about.
We have taken many pictures of him and we will put on this letter lot of them for you to see him and us too.

Financial Crisis:
We are not yet sure about the extent of the crisis to our ministry and surrounding areas and people. As for now, every person that I have known and talked to have not been hurt in anyway by this crisis. As for the ministry, nothing has changed. Of course, we (the people of Christ) trust in the Lord and His sovereign hand and provision for our daily bread and spiritual nourishing. I do anyhow would like to know what is the situation among our brothers from US. Please, let us know how can we pray about this and any other situation by writing to us at kinhos9@hotmail.com.
We do pray for you often but it would give us much joy to pray specifically to you.

Music and Evangelism Ministry:
We have been invited by TWR (Trans World Radio) to have a 30 minutes program every week. We have been praying for this opportunity and we ask you to pray with us as well. We are in the process of accepting this challenge. It would a great blessing to us to be able to share through radio what God has done in our lives.
Another opportunity that we have is also to perform in 4 different TV stations in Sao Paulo City. We are looking forward to this and we will keep in updated.

Brothers and Sisters, thank you for all! May God continue to bless each and every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

July - August 2008

July - August 2008

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“May the peace and love of God surround you always.”

Greetings from Brazil!!

Our Baby:
Well, its coming!!!! Slowly but surely!!
We are getting ourselves ready in almost every way. You know how it is for us “first time parents”!! We did baby sit before but I guess that is not the same, right! lol.
We got some baby stuff like clothe, dippers and etc.
The baby’s due date is set for October 10th.
Monica will be taking her leave of absence from college in a month, so we get ready for the moment. Regarding college it has work out in a way that she will be out of it for half a year and we are pretty happy because, by the time she gets back to school the baby will be at least 6 months old.
Pray for Monica exams that are coming next month.
Pray that God will grant us a healthy baby.
Pray for us as we begin our first-time parenthood.
Pray for us as we adjust to a new life style.

Hospital Ministry:
As for now, this particular ministry is on hold due to several reasons.
Pray that God will direct us to what to do in this ministry.
Pray for the hospital ministry, for it is a powerful ministry that has proven itself to be very effective.
Pray for an specific opportunity we will have at Christmas time. The hospital has invited us to do a special Christmas presentation at the hospital and it will be a wonderful opportunity of sharing the Gospel.

Local Church Ministry:
We have already scheduled several churches for this year. The week we spend at the 16 CEF’s conference, we had the privilege of contacting several leaders, pastor, youth pastor and members of over 50 churches from around the country of Brazil. They came to us and invited us to go to their church and ministers to the kids, teens and youth. So, now we have much work to be done in the future. The interesting thing about this was the fact that most of the people were from the north of Brazil. Now, it is very far, over 1.000 miles from where we are to the where they are. But we have already begun planning perhaps for the month of January and February to be there.
In the mean time, Monica and I have been helping a small church about 1 mile from us. I preach there quite often and we pretty attend it weekly.
Please pray the Lord will lead us according to His will.
Pray that God will use us to reach out to the lost.
Pray that our music may reach out kids and teens and youth.

Camp Ministry:
On the first week of August we had a group of Americans coming to the camp. They were from Cape May Court House. They came to Brazil to minister through music in the local churches and to build a playground for kids at the Camp.
On the month of October we will be having 2 different groups of churches coming to the camp. We will let you know more about it.

Music and Evangelism Ministry:

August has been the busiest ever. I will walk you through it:

- The first week of July we were invited to translate a group of Americans from Kentucky.
There were in a group of 27 people. Among them there were 3 pastors and among these pastors there was Dr. Donald Whitney, a known theologian from US. With them we had the privilege of visiting 4 public schools and several homes. They stayed with us for 1 week. Along this week we were able to reach out to over 300 kids in the schools and the neighborhood. We still keep in touch with them, in fact, in our next visit to US, they have already invited us to stop by Kentucky and try their delicious KFC.

- The last week of July we were invited by CEF Brazil (Child Evangelism Fellowship) to lead the worship for their 16’s conference. This particular congress was held in a huge hotel in the interior of Sao Paulo State. There were about 1500 people from all over Brazil at this congress. We were responsible for the worship time in the morning and at night. Now, I believe some of you recall the fact that they had given us a privilege and a challenge of making a CD especially for teens. My dad had already written over 25 songs, so we put them together and recorded the songs into a CD. The CD came out very nice and we had a vocal help from some teens from a Christian Church near the New Life Camp. The songs that are in the CD are filled with Bible teaching and Bible stories. During the conference we sang all of the songs of the CD and many people loved. In fact, we have already set several churches to go to and minister to the kids and teens.

- The second week of August, we had the visit of another church from USA. They were here with us for a week and their goal were 3 fold: 1 - build a playground for kids at the Camp. 2 - Minister through music in the local churches. 3 – Visit Brazil. This particular group was actually the “Praise Team” from First United Methodist Church of Cape May Court House.
We met them many years ago in one of our visits to US. Their church gave us many opportunities to share our ministry. This particular church is also the home church of my sister, Andrea, who is married to the youth pastor of the church, Pr. Josh Fox. She was very happy to come home and for 1 week we were able to gather the whole family and have a great time.
They build the playground and it came out very nice. It was impressive the fact that they build in pretty much 3 days.
We along with their praise team had an opportunity to minister in several locations.
Funny situation: They stayed at the camp with us and when they got here the weather was good and sunny, but things changed in the next few days. My car, my dad’s car and the minibus got stuck in the mud and it rained constantly for 3 days straight. Never the less, we had a great time.
Financial Status:
When we got here in May of 2007 the dollar’s exchange rate was 2 for 1. Today, things are quite different. As of today, the dollar exchange rate is at 1.6 to 1. In other words, for each one American dollar is worth 1.6 Brazilian money (real). That means that our support level is now at 10% lower than when we first got here.
At the present moment our support level is at 60%. The government does not say if the exchange rate will go up or do down.
But we are not worried for we know God is in control of our lives and He is the One who keeps us going.
We are also very thankful for the fact that every month a church or a family always blesses us with extra amount.
Pray that God will guide us as we face this challenge.
Pray that God will raise new financial and prayer supports.
We also praise God that in these last months, God has also blessed us with extra Prayer Supporters. As of now, we have over 200 people praying for us and for the ministry.
We Praise the Lord for each and every one of you! Your effort in giving and praying has made much difference in our ministry and we know that God has much in stored for each of you.

Brothers and Sisters, thank you for all! May God continue to bless each and every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

We Love you

News Letter June 2007

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“May the peace and love of God surround you always.”

Finally we can get some rest! Since we have arrived it has been quite busy down here in Brazil. We haven’t stopped for nothing, but in all things God has been awesome to us and thank Him for everything He is doing among us.
What I am going to try to do in this letter is to walk you through our first month here in Brazil.

First – Health. One week before Monica and I left from US, I (Marcos) had a health related situation that did scares us a little bit. But to make a very long story short, I ended up going to the hospital in the US and 5 hours after the exams the doctor sent me home and said that I was stressed and recommended some rest and no travel for a while. We left US and everything was fine. When we got here we decided to do a total health check-up. So, since we have arrived and today 4 weeks later we are still in the process of health exams. Monica and I are going through several medical exams about 14 each; we still have about 2 weeks to end it. My health doctor here in Brazil has come to a conclusion that my problem was more related to stress and also Chinese food. Well, I love Chinese food and it has been quite hard for me to give up on this cuisine. This particular food problem has caused me to have a beginning of gastric problems, so right now I am taking some medicine to fix this problem. Another thing that he said was that I had to take it ease on my long travels and cut down on it.
Monica also has gone through some intense health check-up exams, and so far everything is alright, Praise God.
To some up, God is good; everything works for good for those that love the Lord!
Monica and I are now taking our time in doing things and also in travel. Please, pray for our health and also our families health.

Second – Culture Chock. Funny to say that I though Monica was going to experience some culture chock (Reverse Culture Chock – a problem that happens when a national, after living a long time oversees, comes home and experiences dramatic changes). To some up, she was fine, but I was the one to face this reverse culture chock. It is interesting because I knew about even before I got to the US and now here I am facing this interesting situation. For the first 3 weeks, it was really hard for me to adjust to everything. I guess I can say with some confidence that no one is safe from the surprises of life. The first week Monica and I were a little lost and the next weeks after that we were home sick from US. We did start our married life in US, so we knew a little better how to live in US, how to shop in US and how to walk in general in US. But, now Praise God, things are better, and we are coming back to our senses. Monica misses Walmart, Shoprite, Linen’Things and Kohls. I miss all the rest, but not Chinese food, I’ve learned my lesson. Continue to pray for our adaptation.

Third – Container. After much work, running around, singing papers, spending money, it has finally come to an end. The Container has finally arrived. I am not going to say much on this because it would take a minimum of 50 pages, but I am going to say
something. The container took about 20 days to arrived in Santos in the state of Sao Paulo. From the moment the container set foot in Brazil we had 10 days to release it or we would pay demurrage, which is a rent to the port of about U$100 a day. We had a friend of ours helping out, and he was a great help to us. We had to do about 19 things in order to release the container. It took much effort and patience to have it done, but now it is finally over. Once more we want to thank each and every one that has donated and helped our ministry in many ways possible, may God bless you greatly!! All the things have arrived safely we did had some things broken but overall it was fine. In all we thank God for His awesome hand in all.

Forth – Housing. Monica and I have not yet started to look for a house. The first month has just been too busy. We plan to look for it soon, we estimate it to begin by mid June. Please, pray that God will guide us to the right place.

Fifth – Ministry. For the first two Sundays after we got here, we were in charge of a small church in Nazare Paulista – small town near Atibaia – I preached on Sunday night and let Bible study during the week. Regarding the ministry in full, we plan to first of all get ourselves fixed some where, because right now, we are spending one week over Monica’s parents and another week over my parents. We do have our schedule full July and next semester. Monica and I have been invented by a American Missionary to teach music seminars in the Indian Village where my dad was raised as a young Indian boy. We plan to spend 1 month over there in September or October. Please pray for us as we begin ministry in full power.

Sixth – Support. We are still under supported. We are at about 60%. The conversion rate from Reais to Dollars is very close to equal, so right now we are in need of more financial support. The gasoline is about U$4.90 a gallon. Food – some things are cheaper and some are more expensive that US. We do have Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club, but they don’t compare to the ones in US. Everything is 3x more expensive. Telephone cost is extremely expensive and so is the internet; for DSL I would be paying today about U$70. And high-speed internet (cable) about U$150.

Seventh – Thank YOU LORD!!

Finally – Brothers and Sisters, we thank you for financial and prayer support. Continue to pray for these prayer request above and below:
- Heatlh
- Ministry
- Housing
- Safety for travel
- We are still very under supported, about 60%. Please pray that God will touch hearts of churches and individuals that would help us to raise the remaining funds.

All this running around and the food changes has caused me to already lose 15 pounds and Monica about 7; which is good, we are now in the process of keeping our bodies up for the task that the Lord has called us!

Brothers and Sisters, thank you for all! May God continue to bless each and every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, We Love you all.

News Letter September 2007

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“May the peace and love of God surround you always.”

Greetings from Brazil!!

First – Health – Praises to the Lord! Brothers I have been recovering from my stomach problem. It has been close to 3 months of treatment but now thank God, things seam to be coming back to normal. The only thing is that I have somewhat gotten used to these past 3 month’s diet. I have already lost 25 pounds and it is going down. Monica is doing fine, she almost broke her foot last week and she was on crouches for a week, but now she is out of them and is doing great.
Thank you for your prayers and please continue to pray for our health.
Prayer request:
- Pray for my father, he has diabetes and high blood pressure – pray that God will give him health.
- Pray for my mom, for she also has high blood pressure.

Second – Music & Evangelistic Ministry. This past weekend we had our musical & evangelistic group performing at the Evangelical Missionary Church in Atibaia. The Pastor of the church was saved through our ministry several years ago and became part of our musical team for 2 years. He went to seminary to become a Pastor and today by the grace of God he is pastoring a church. It was a Missionary Conference in His church and Saturday night we sang 12 songs and we brought forth the Word of God through testimonies.
Here are some pictures:
Prayer Request:
- Pray that God will continue to open new doors for musical & evangelistic ministry.
- Pray that God will use us according to His plan.

Third – Camp Ministry. This past week we had over 100 people coming to the camp. It was group of people mostly made of youth. We did had a great time with them. They stayed with us from Thursday through Sunday night and everything went very nice. There was a lots of work, by the end of Sunday the staff was really tired but it was worth every minute. We had 7 people coming to know the Lord this particular weekend and praise God for their lives.
In 4 weeks were are going to be hosting 120 teens from Braganca Baptist Church.
- Pray that God will give us good weather – the rain could complicate the dirt roads to the camp.
- Pray that God will use us to reach out to the lost and to guide the saved.

Fourth – Hospital Ministry. I have made contact with Dr. Zitti (the founder of the Hospital Ministry in UNICAMP). In 3 weeks Monica and I will be staying in his house as we engage into the Hospital Ministry. He plans to involve us into ministry right way and in the mean time we will begin a preparatory course that will enable us to be more effective in the hospital ministry.
UNICAMP – you might be wondering what is that? It is a very large Public Hospital/Medical University near the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The particular Hospital has over 3.000 people and every day there is a traffic flow of over 500 people a day.
As we engage into this ministry in coming up weeks I will let you know the details.
Prayer request:
- Pray that God will guide us accordingly.

Fifth – Housing. After much searching we have found a piece of land. We looked over 10 cities around our area searching for a house or a land to purchase. We had in mind that this place would be close to the camp ministry and at the same time close to the hospital ministry. Isn’t God Awesome!!! We have found a place in between both ministries. It is about 30 minutes by car to the camp and about 40 minutes to the hospital ministry. As we entered the place Monica was convinced in her heart that it was the place for us and soon enough we found had peace that it was the place God prepared for us. We plan to begin building as soon as we can.
Praises to our Lord that does everything perfect in His time!!
Prayer request:
- Pray that we might be able to build it soon.

Sixth – Support. We are still under supported but God is supply all of our needs and we praise Him greatly. We praise God that since we have come back to Brazil, we have had new supporters coming in to join us. I call tell you brothers that God is making our 2 breads and 3 fishes being multiplied in a way that we can’t explain. In every need God has shown Himself faithful. Praises be to God!! Our Support at this moment has gone from 60% to 76%.
Spiritual Support is the key to victory in ministry. Before we left US we had made over 200 prayer partners. I am convinced that Prayer makes a HUGE difference in order to have successful ministry. We battle our enemy constantly and that is why you must join forces with us as we fight this spiritual battle. Thank you for your prayers and your financial support.
Prayer request:
- Pray that God will continue to supply our needs both spiritually and materially.
- Pray that God will raise more supporters for His cause.
- Pray that God will raise more prayer supporters – Please join us in prayer!!

Seventh – Communication. We have finally found a part-time solution to our communication problems. The T-Mobile Celular company has a branch here in Brazil that is quite large, it is called TIM Celular. After some searching we have found a device that enables us to have internet through a USB-Modem-Device. Well, I am not really going to explain how it works because I am not very sure, and besides that it is to hard to understand but one thing is for sure – It Works!! Before we were having huge problems with our dialed up internet provider but now we have communication back.
If you have MSN Messenger Chat you can communicate with us. Our nick-name is “kinhos9” and our email is kinhos9@hotmail.com.
Would you like to call us?
Now you can. When we lived in US we were privileged to have found a calling card that enabled us to call to Brazil for 10U$ and talk for 10 hours. If you wish to call us here it is the website: www.callingcardplus.com – just follow the instructions for the pin number and etc.
Our number is 011-55-11-8668-5980. Call us any time.

We Praise the Lord for each and every one of you! Your effort in giving and praying has made much difference in our ministry and we know that God has much in stored for each of you.
Continue to pray for these prayer request above and below:
- Heatlh
- Ministry
- Housing
- Safety for travel
- We are still very under supported, about 76%. Please pray that God will touch hearts of churches and individuals that would help us to raise the remaining funds.

Brothers and Sisters, thank you for all! May God continue to bless each and every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

We Love you

News Letter July 2007

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“May the peace and love of God surround you always.”

Dear brothers and sister, things are starting to take shape. Our first months in Brazil are being quite interesting. We are indeed taking it step by step, always praying and waiting in the Lord for all things. As usual I will walk you through our time here in Brazil.

Health - I am still undergoing some treatment because of my stomach problem that I had just before going back to Brazil. The doctor has put me under medication for 3 months and also in a huge diet. I had to cut out any sodas like coke and others, so far it has been almost 2 months that I haven’t had any sodas just water and juices. It has been good in a way, because I have lost lots of weight and keeping me healthy. Monica is doing great! She has also been helping very much and we both have agreed to a more light diet.
As missionaries we have to be physically ready for ministry. We never know what could happen; sometimes we could have a call at 4 am and other times we could have a full week of ministry, so it is very important that we keep up with what the Lord brings us. Thank you for your prayers concerning our health. Prayer request:
- continue praying for our health.
- pray also for my parents, my father (Marcos Sr.) has diabetes and my mom has high blood pressure.

Culture Adjustment.- I can tell you that by now we have gain more confidence by being here in Brazil. In the beginning it was not easy, by now we are much more acquainted with Brazil.

Housing – We have began our search for a house but it has not been easy. We are praying that God will lead us to a place where it would be easier on us as we travel every week to our ministries responsibilities. A typical Brazilian house is ranging anywhere from 30 to 50 thousand dollars. It is not anywhere expensive compared to US but for us it still very high. Please pray that we will find a special place in right time in God’s time.

Ministry – We are keeping busy. The first months are always harder especially for us as we take care of personal things, like housing and transportation, but we are keeping busy. We have already made arrangements of ministry at the camp, in a local church, with the hospital, and with the evangelistic musical group, the OneSoul Ministry is starting to take shape. As we pray and let the Lord lead us, we can begin seeing His mighty Hands at work in and through our lives. At this time I will walk you through the ministry to let you know how things are going in every segment of the OneSoul Ministries.
New Life Bible Camp Ministry – we are so excited to be part of this awesome ministry and to be able impact hundreds of kids, youth, adults, couples, leaders and specially the lost for Christ. We have been preparing for camp. In the next semester we will be having several local churches coming to the camp. The da
- September 13th-17th
- October 11th-16th
- November 16th-20th
We are still in contact with other church groups that would be perhaps making their way to New Life Bible Camp.
Local Church Ministry – We are already involved with a local church in Jandira, SP – Brazil. First Baptist Church of Jandira has been a growing church in the past 5 years. The church has over 300 members and every year it grows more and more. Monica and I will be spending some quality time with Pastor Junior and his wife as we kick off the Local Church Ministry. This week is VBS at the Jandira’s church and Monica and I are involved with the teens and also with the worship team. As the times progresses we will keep in touch with Pastor Junior as we look to help the First Baptist Church of Jandira.
Hospital Ministry – we are getting ready to begin the 1 year preparation school of nursing at UNICAMP. Once we start this preparation we will be able to be more effective in the hospital Ministry. We will keep you informed.
OneSoul Musical Group – we have already set couples of churches for this upcoming year.
The dates are as follow: 24th-27th of August – City of Atibaia
28th-30th of September – City of Itapeva
23rd-26th of November – City of Sao Paulo
21st-23rd of December – City of Sao Paulo

Support. The US dollar exchange rate is changing every day. Right now the exchange rate is 1.80. In other words, for every 1 dollar is equal to 1.80 reais. About 6 months ago it was 2.2 and now it is going down every day and the market says it will continue to go down.
We are still under supported. We are at about 60%, so right now we are in need of more financial support.
But in all things we are very thankful for what the Lord is doing.
Please pray for our support as we pray for new supporters to join us in our ministry.

Communication Problems – Unfortunately Brazil is still behind when we talk about communication. Monica and I are still looking for a good internet plan and after much searching we might have found a way to at least help us in our communication with our supporters, churches and friends. We have not yet closed the deal with this particular plan but we believe it will be done very soon and we will keep you posted. As soon as we have a better connection with internet we will keep you informed through email as to our movements.
As for our phone connection we have a new cell phone number. If you wish to communicate with us through this number here it is: 021-55-11-8668-5980.

Thank YOU LORD!!

Brothers and Sisters, thank you for all! May God continue to bless each and every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, We Love you all.
